More details can be found here Isle of Muck During July and August mackerel are usually abundant for folk interested in a spot of fishing, and throughout the year various courses are run on the island, including basket weaving. Puffins can regularly be seen in the waters around the island from the Sheerwater during these months.

During the months of June and early July, the birds are very active flying to and from their burrows with food for the chicks. Puffins generally lay their eggs during May. It is home to many nesting sea birds, including the island’s Puffin colony. Horse Island, which is only accessible at low water, lies just of Gallanach. From here you can climb Ben Airean (451′), and when conditions are right you can see the islands of Skye, Coll, Tiree, Barra, Eriskay, Vatersay and South Uist amongst others from the summit. This is an easy walk with stunning views across the water to the islands of Eigg and Rum, and takes about 25 minutes if you don’t venture off the road to explore!Īs you approach Gallanach you are rewarded with the sight of some of the island’s six sandy beaches. We land at the jetty at Port Mor, where a road runs across the island to Gallanach. Once you have arrived on Muck you will have 3 hours to spend exploring the Island if you travel back on the same day.

Sailings can take slightly longer if there are sightings of marine wildlife during the journey, which can include whales, dolphins and several types of sea bird. Sailings to Muck take two hours, which includes a half hour stop in Eigg for departing passengers. For 2023, MV Sheerwater will sail from Arisaig to Muck (via Eigg) departing at 10am.
